Van Lanier - Principal Consultant

Washington DC

Van is a turnaround specialist who helps business owners revive their companies when they become unprofitable. Since 1977, Van has devoted his professional career to small business turnarounds. Clients retain him either as a Turnaround Consultant who comes to their business, or as a Turnaround Coach who provides guidance via the internet.

Van has practiced independently for most of his career. He was National Director of Turnaround Consulting for KPMG BayMark, but returned to private practice after several years.

Van is a Certified Management Consultant and a life-long practitioner of turning things around. He earned his M.B.A. with highest honors before personal computers made the math easy. Van is a long-time member of the Turnaround Management Association, the Institute of Management Consultants, and the Superior Business Firm Roundtable.

In addition to his consulting practice, Van has earned his stripes as an entrepreneur. In 1974, he asked the city of Fernandina Beach, Florida to award him its cable television franchise. It did. Thirty years later, a technology company he founded was named Innovation of the Year by Frost & Sullivan. Van has owned seven other small companies, five of which he started from scratch. He enjoyed success with most, but took it in the gut from one.

Van serves as a director and advisor to corporations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. He writes and speaks on business turnaround issues for the World Bank and other organizations.
